Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South Sunday organized a demonstration program in the capital, protesting the abnormal price hike of essential commodities including onion.
The protest procession was held at the city’s Khilgaon Rail gate area after parading different city streets.
Speaking at the function, Jamaat Dhaka City South assistant secretary advocate Helal Uddin said: “The continuous rise of essential commodity prices has caused the immense suffering and tribulation of common people and middle-income people in the country.”
At present, the price of essential commodities including onion in the market has soared abnormally. The ruling Awami League government has failed to control the prices of the commodity. The syndicate is now controlling the market. But the government has remained silent and is doing nothing over the crucial issue thus increasing the suffering of ordinary people of the country, he said.
To curb the prices of the essentials, the Islamic economic system must be established, he emphasized.
“The lives of the middle class and the poor people have become miserable for abnormal price hike of essentials. Still, there is no visible step of the government to this end. The government is busy protecting its power and party. The government is not taking any effective steps to prevent the rise of essential commodity prices. The present government is not elected by the people. So they are ignoring the welfare for the people,” the leader alleged.
“A vicious circle is now controlling the market. The government should arrest them immediately and give them exemplary punishment,” the Jamaat city leader said.
“A neighboring country in a planned manner is trying to create food shortage in Bangladesh, violating the international rules and enhancing the woes of the country’s common and marginal people,” they said.
The leader urged all to be united against the government and its oppression.
City working committee member Mokarram Hossain, Kamal Hossain, labor leader Abdus Salaam, former Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir presidents Delwar Hossain and Abdul Jabbar, among others, were present at the event.
