Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South distributed over 10,000 packets of relief materials to the flood victims in Sylhet .
Bangladesh reels from the worst flooding in nearly 20 years. The flooding in Bangladesh, described by a government expert as potentially the country’s worst since 2004, was exacerbated by the runoff from heavy rain across Indian mountains.
City secretary Dr hafiqul Islam Masud handed over package of relief goods to the flood-affected people in the area on Monday.
The party Central Working Committee Member and Sylhet City chief Fakhrul Islam, Dhaka City South Working Committee Member Abdus Salam, Mubarak Hossain and other leaders, among others, were present at the program.
Earlier, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum, and the central delegates have witnessed the worsening flood condition of Sylhet around the day.
They also visited the severely affected areas and distributed relief among the victims in the flood-hit area s.
While experiencing the flood situation, Jamaat leaders said, within a month, the flood hits the greater Sylhet region for the second time.
Jamaat-e-Islami has come forward to serve the flood victims of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts, they said.
Jamaat’s leaders and activists have been working sincerely in this crisis, they stated.
The Jamaat leaders also urged the affluent sections of the society to extend their helping hands to the flood victims.
Bangladesh and India have experienced increasing extreme weather in recent years, causing large-scale damage. Environmentalists warn climate change could lead to more disasters, especially in low-lying and densely populated Bangladesh.
