Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South condemned and protested the price hike of essential commodities.
Thousands of people staged the protest in Motijheel area on Thursday morning.
The procession started from Shapla Chattar in Motijheel, went around the main road and ended with a short rally at Ittefaq intersection.
Jamaat’s central working committee member and Dhaka City South Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud spoke at the demonstration as the chief guest
Speaking at the program, Dr Masud said the country’s unbridled corruption, irregularities and syndicates have created an artificial crisis of essential commodities in the country.
The suffering of the people has now reached a climax as a result of the spiraling prices of every commodity including rice, pulses, oil and onions, he said.
The government has not taken any steps to curb the commodity prices, he said, adding that the government is not taking any action against those involved in these irregularities due to their involvement.
Due to the government’s failure to control the market along with extreme mismanagement, a silent famine has witnessed in the country, Dr Masud stated.
He said the government has taken a stand against the people of the country.
Instead of controlling the market and ensuring a normal life for the people, the government is busy suppressing the opposition, the city secretary says.
Our party wants to say it clearly that this government, steeped in interest, bribery and corruption, has failed to establish any just and fundamental rights for the people, he further said.
The unelected government has no responsibility for the people of the country. There is no alternative to a government which will be elected by the people under a non-partisan caretaker government to curb the rise in commodity prices, Dr. Shafiqul said.
City assistant secretary Muha. Delwar Hossain, city working committee members professor Mokarrran Hossain Khan, Shamsur Rahman, Kamal Hossain, Abdus Salam and Dr Abdul Mannan, among others, were present at the demonstration.
