Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South Muhammad Delwar Hossain on Saturday said his party would extend its support to the victims of Jhalakathi launch fire incident that killed at least 37 people.
Firefighters have so far recovered 37 bodies and 72 others injured from the charred launch after Barguna-bound MV Abhijan-10 caught fire, according to the Fire Service.
He made his remark while visiting the injured victims at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in the capital Dhaka on Saturday.
He also inquired about their health condition of the victims and their families.
“We have come here on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to visit the injured victims who are undergoing treatment,” he said.
Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman and Jamaat Dhaka City South ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul have sent us here with instructions to look after the victims who are now undergoing treatment here, he stated.
“ We have inquired about the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. May Allah Almighty return the injured to normal life”, he said.
Jamaat Dhaka City South Hafizur Rahman, labour leader Abdus Salam, among others, were present during their visit.
Delwar Hossain further called upon the government to find out the exact cause of the fire incident at the launch and bring those responsible for the negligence or accident under the law and exemplary punishment.
Many passengers jumped into the river in a desperate bid to save their lives as the fire raged for about three hours. Survivors say the launch was packed with passengers.
