Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul and Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud have expressed their deep shock at the death of former secretary and intellectual Shah Abdul Hannan. He was 82.
Shah Abdul Hannan, who was chairman of Diganta Media Corporation and Ibn Sina Trust, passed away on Wednesday morning at Ibn Sina hospital of old age complications. He suffered from cardiac arrest several times after getting admitted in the hospital and also lost his memory.
Shah Abdul Hannan breathed his last at the hospital at 10:30 am on Wednesday.
He left behind one son, one daughter, and host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
The city leaders expressed their grief by remembering the colorful aspects of Shah Abdul Hannan’s personal life.
Both the leaders prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.
His first namaz e janaza was held at Dhanmondi Eidgah Mosque while his second namaz-e-
Janaza was held at 3:00 pm in front of his residence in city’s Khilgaon area.
His third and last namaz e janaza was held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. Later he was buried at Shajahanpur after his second namaz-e-janaza at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Bulbul and Dr Masud also urged the family members to be patient and Allah-fearing in this regard.
Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, senior Nayeb-e- Ameer Professor Mujibur Rahman (former MP), Nayeb-e- Ameer ANM Shamsul Alam (former MP), Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim were present at the two different namaz e janazas.
Jamaat Dhaka City South Nayeb-e-Ameer Munjurul Islam Bhuiyan, assistant secretaries advocate Helal Uddin, Delwar Hossain, among others, were present at those namaz e janazas.
Former secretary Shah Abdul Hannan’s Biography
A seasoned civil servant, Shah Abdul Hannan started his career with Pakistan Civil Service in 1963. After Bangladesh was created in 1971, he served the country and held such important positions as Collector of Customs and Value Added Tax (VAT), Director General of the Bureau of Anti-Corruption, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR). He subsequently served as the Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Banking Division, Ministry of Finance and finally Internal Resource Division (IRD), the Ministry of Finance and concurrently Chairman, National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Shah Abdul Hannan is one of the founders of North South University, Darul Ihsan University, International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) and Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BITT). He was also the founding President of the Council for Interfaith Harmony, the Chairman of Ibn Sina Trust and the Chairman of the Diganta Media Corporation.
Shah Abdul Hannan is a renowned scholar of Tafsir, Hadith, Usul-al-Fiqh, Political Science, Economics, Banking and Taxation. He has authored Soviet Union-e-Islam (1976), Islamer Arthonititey Sarkerer Vumika (1985), Nari Somosya O Islam (1988), Islami Arthoniti: Darshan O Karmakaushal (2002), Nari O Bastabata (2002), Desh Samaj Rajniti (2003), Biswa Poristhiti Orthoniti O Islam Bishoyok Bishleshon (2006), Amar Kal Amar Chinta (2008), Usul-ul-Fiqh (2011), Oshtom Kolam (2011), Nari: Islam O Bastobata (2011), Somaj Sangskriti O Rajniti Vabna (2012), Bishoy Chinta (2013) and Nirbachito Shankalon (2013) – all in Bangla. His English works include Islam in Russia-Central Asia (1976), Social Laws of Islam (1995), Usul-al-Fiqh (2000) and Law Economics and History (2003).
He played a prominent role in the compilation of Economics in Qur’an (2 Volumes) and Bidhibaddho Islami Ain (Codified Islamic Law; 3 Volumes) published by Islamic Foundation Bangladesh in 1995.
