Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general and also ex-MP Mia Ghulam Parwar said in almost half a century of victory, the country’s people have not got the real benefits of independence.
Former MP Professor Parwar said, “The great liberation struggle and victory is the greatest achievement of our national life. By realizing the dream of victory on December 16, 1971, we have got a territory of our own, but even today the people have not got the benefit of their long- cherished dream of freedom”.
On December 16 in 1971, Bangladesh was born as an independent country at the cost of supreme sacrifice of three million people.
Former lawmaker was speaking as the chief guest at the 50 th Victory Day discussion and prayer program organized by Jamaat Dhaka City South at an auditorium in the capital on Tuesday.
Jamaat Dhaka City South ameer and also central executive member Nurul Islam Bulbul chaired the program.
City secretary Dr Shoficul Islam Masud, city assistant secretaries advocate Helal Uddin and Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, among others, were present as the meeting.
Even after the red-green flag has been placed on the world map, the achievement of our independence has been tarnished by the short-sightedness and negligence of political personalities, former MP said.
While the neighboring countries like Malaysia and Singapore became independent much later than Bangladesh, today they are known as prosperous countries in the world stage, he points out.
On the other hand, Bangladesh has gradually become enslaved to hegemony instead of upholding its identity in the world he insists.
Democracy, rule of law, social justice and economic liberation were the main objectives and agenda of the war of independence. Although almost half a century of victory is about to pass, the main spirit of the war of independence is being plundered today, ex-MP Mia Ghulam Parwar again insists.
Therefore, in order to uphold the original spirit of the war of liberation and to realize the dreams of the martyrs, all must unite in establishing a just society, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamaat Dhaka City South ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul said democracy and fundamental rights of the people in the country are now at stake due to ruling Awami League’s politics of vengeance and animosity.

He also said democracy, human values and equality are the main principles of independence, but due to the politics of vengeance and partition the country could not achieve that goal.
“Throughout patriotism and national unity regardless of party-like, religion and caste, it is possible to create a happy, prosperous, and prosperous Bangladesh. He called for greater welfare of country and nation, to abandon politics of vendetta, revenge and discrimination, to build greater national unity,” Bulbul said.
Due to the Awami League government’s politics of abnegation and misinformation, the joy is very fading today, the city ameer said.
“This day is highly significant as it is a day of victory against oppression and torture. I am recalling the outstanding contribution of those valiant heroes, who had sacrificed their lives for the nation. I am praying for the salvation of their departed souls. I would like to express my deep gratitude and respect to the freedom fighters who had participated in country’s liberation war,” he said.
“The nation is observing glorious Victory Day in such a crucial period when a suffocating atmosphere is prevailing nationwide. The nation has already lost democracy, the best output of the independence and the society is moving towards an uncertain destiny,” the central executive member said.
The only way to get rid of situation is to hold a free, credible election, he again said.
The city ameer said “The nation will enjoy the real taste of independence and simultaneously will be able to achieve perpetual welfare when the blessings of Almighty Allah would come through the process of establishing an Islamic society. I am praying for Almighty Allah’s blessings and assistance to establish that esteemed Islamic society.”
