Jamaat Dhaka City South observes discussion
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South observed the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ on Saturday (Nov 7), marking the ‘civil-military uprising’ in 1975.
On this day in 1975, amid political turmoil, soldiers and civilians overthrew the then government and freed the then chief of army staff Ziaur Rahman from captivity in Dhaka cantonment, paving the way for Zia to come to power.
To mark the day, Jamaat Dhaka City South organized a discussion at a city auditorium.
City ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul chaired the programme while city secretary Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud moderated it.
City nayeb-e-ameer Manjurul Islam Bhuiyan, assistant secretaries Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin and Abdul Jabbar, among others, were present at the function.
Speaking on the occasion, City ameer Bulbul said this day is highly significant in context of our national lives.
The soldiers and people of all walks made a united effort on 7 November of 1975 to resist the conspiracies in order to defend independence and sovereignty, he said.
“The nation is observing 7 November in such a crucial time, when there is no democracy and rule of law in the country.“To get rid of this situation, a massive broad base unity is required to launch a massive movement. The countrymen will be inspired with the spirit of this day to protect the country’s freedom and sovereignty once again,” the city ameer said.
