Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul and Secretary Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud expressed profound sorrow and shock at the loss of lives in Buriganga launch capsize.
They prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and expressed sympathy to the bereaved families.
At least 33 people died as a launch, carrying over 150 passengers, capsized in the Buriganga river near Shyambazar in the morning.
In a joint condolence message, the two leaders said, “As the entire nation, we are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic deaths of so many passengers in the launch capsize of the Morning Bird with more than a hundred of passengers in the Buriganga.”
They said “It is difficult to bear the heartbreaking scene that took place in this incident. The leaders prayed for the souls of those who died in the tragic launch accident and conveyed their deepest condolences to their bereaved family members”.
“May Allah grant their good deeds, make them dwell in Paradise and also give their families and relatives the gift of patience”, they said.
The leaders said it is a matter of deep concern that the lack of proper enforcement of the law does not guarantee the safe travel of passengers in vehicles.
As a result, the culture of injustice and extreme anarchy is prevailing in the transport sector in the country and tragic accidents are constantly taking place on the roads and waterways while countless people are losing their lives prematurely due to these accidents, they pointed out.
The leaders called upon the government to find out the exact cause of the accident through impartial investigation and take strict legal action against those responsible for the accident.
They also urged the government to take appropriate measures for the speedy rescue of the missing persons and provide appropriate compensation to the families of the victims.
