Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South on Monday staged a protest programme in the capital to immediately release the unjust and unlawful arrest of its national leaders.
Police arrested nine leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami including its Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar. Professor Porwar is also a former lawmaker.
The arrestees include two Assistant Secretary Generals of Jamaat, Rafiqul Islam Khan and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad.
The demonstration, led by Party’s Central Working Committee member and also Dhaka City South secretary Dr Shafiqul Islam Masud, started from Khilgaon Railgate area of the capital at 9 pm on Monday and ended with a rally after parading different important streets.
Among others, the city assistant secretaries Md Delwar Hossain and Abdul Jabber, were present at the demonstration.
Speaking at the demonstration, Dr Masud said Jamaat Dhaka City South strongly was condemning and was protesting against the unjust arrest of 10 including its Secretary General Porwar, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan and former MP Hamidur Rahman Azad.
The Jamaat leader also called upon the government to immediately release of those unjustly arrested leaders.
Otherwise all the injustices would be properly answered with the people, he said.
Jamaat-e-Islami is a constitutional and democratic political party in the country and also is trying to provide all possible services to the people in this trying time amid the Covid-19 pandemic, he pointed out.
As part of the party’s regular activities, a meeting was held on the afternoon on September 6, chaired by Secretary General Professor Golam Porwar .
Police backed by ruling Awami League government unjustly arrested them without any specific allegation which is totally unacceptable and unlawful too, he said.
